Announcing American Theatre for the Very Young: A Digital Festival

AMERICAN THEATRE FOR THE VERY YOUNG: A DIGITAL FESTIVAL

PREMIERES MARCH 1, 2018, ON VIMEO

North American theatre companies producing work for the very young (0 – 6 years of age) are invited to submit video recordings of performances and artist panel discussions between September 1 and December 1, 2017, to be considered for inclusion in the March 1, 2018, launch of American Theatre for the Very Young: A Digital Festival.

This opportunity to make work available on-line to practitioners, educators, researchers, students, and others will challenge companies to put forth their very best efforts, enable them to learn from one another, and spark myriad conversations that will seed and fertilize ideas, aspirations, inspirations, and goals all around the country.

Co-directed by playwright Sandra Fenichel Asher and Utah Valley University professor John D. Newman, the Festival has recently received a developmental funding grant from the Children’s Theatre Foundation of America.  Steering Committee members include Judy Matetzschk-Campbell, Artistic Director of Pollyanna Theatre; Bethany Lynn Corey, Southwestern University Assistant Professor; Stacy Staeyert, Early Childhood Program Coordinator, Imagination Stage; and UVU Media, Marketing, and Facilities Coordinator Isaac Walters.

Video recordings of complete performances are preferred.  Excerpts are eligible if they give viewers a good idea of the full show.  Excerpts also require a 15 – 30 minute taped discussion of the play’s development and goals.  That discussion might include the playwright, director, actors, designers, etc.  Similar discussions from providers of complete shows are also welcome.

Participating companies are responsible for the all costs of video recordings of performances and panel discussions submitted to the Festival.  There is no fee to participate in the Festival, no remuneration to participants, and no charge to view the Festival on-line.

Participating companies are responsible for copyright and all necessary permissions pertaining to their video recordings of performances and panel discussions.  The Festival will be password-protected and its contents will not be downloadable in any way.  All other rights to and uses of the video recordings will remain with their originating companies.  The Festival asks only for permission to upload and host the material as part of its content for as long as the Festival exists on-line.  Participating companies are assured that their video recordings will be removed on receipt of their written request to do so.

This is not a competition!  Vimeo hosting is unlimited, and the Festival will continue to grow beyond its initial launch.  Material received after December 1, 2017, will be considered for Festival additions beyond the launch.  The Festival Steering Committee will look for excellence in both performances and recordings.  All decisions of the Festival Steering Committee are final.
