Providing advocacy & resources for the field of theatre for young audiences.

Daniel Kelin II

Daniel A. Kelin, II (Director of Drama Education at Honolulu Theatre for Youth) applied for funding to conduct in-school, drama-based workshops in collaboration with the Sharma Center for Heritage Education in Chennai, India and Dr. Velu Saravanan, director of Aazhi Children’s Theatre of Pondicherry, India. Through observation and classroom work in those two places, Kelin asked, “How can we develop alternative ways to bring together the culturally diverse, regionally divided youth populations of urban Honolulu non-western play development and storytelling techniques to use with the Hawaiian audiences Honolulu Theatre For Youth serves?”  Since that time, Kelin has returned to India several times, enriching his work back in his home islands through his many South Asian experiences.
