A Conversation with Rob Weinert-Kendt

Rob Weinert-Kendt is editor-in-chief of American Theatre. He was the founding editor-in-chief of Back Stage West and cofounder of StageGrade, and he writes about theatre for The New York Times, America magazine, and his blog The Wicked Stage. He studied film at USC and is a composer member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop.

Reading: Young Playwrights For Change

A Professional reading of the winning play from Young Playwrights for Change, a collaborative national middle school playwriting competition run by Theatre for Young Audiences/USA (TYA/USA) and the American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE), which gives participating students the opportunity to tell their stories in order to produce meaningful conversations that will ripple across our nation to provoke change. This year’s winner will be announced this Spring.

Discussion: On The Edge - Challenging the Art Form

Taking a cue from the upcoming ASSITEJ International gathering in the UK, we’ll be leading a discussion about the present and future of TYA. We’ll springboard from our arts journalism related conversation with Rob Weinert-Kendt and cover issues of diversity, new work, and more.

Harold Oaks Awards

The TYA/USA Spring Membership Meeting will include the presentation of the 2016 Harold Oaks Awards, our annual honor acknowledging the significant contributions of individuals and organizations in the Theatre for Young Audiences field in the US.
